Colonel Jon “Ice” Christian Eisberg

Colonel Eisberg currently serves as Senior Policy Advisor for Army National Guard matters on the Reserve Forces Policy Board. He is responsible for reviewing, drafting and providing policy for ARNG and Reserve Component issues. He serves as the main advisor to Chief, National Guard Bureau and the Director of the ARNG. He comes to RFPB from the National War College where he served as the Dean of Students, Assistant Professor, and Senior National Guard Chair.

Colonel Eisberg has served more than 35 years in both the Navy and the Army, on active duty and in the reserves, in a wide range of capacities. Colonel Eisberg’s career began in the U.S. Navy as a Training Active Reserve (TAR) member as an Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Sensor Operator (Acoustic) and a helicopter search and rescue swimmer with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL-74) in South Weymouth, MA.

Previous assignments include Deputy G5, Chief of War Plans, and Chief of Strategic Communications within the ARNG G5. He held assignments as Chief of Future Operations with the Army Guard Operations Division; Director of Training and Operations for the National Guard’s Professional Education Center (PEC) in Little Rock, AR; and Chief of Strategy and Policy and European State Partnership Program desk officer with the NGB-J5-35 Internal Affairs on the National Guard Bureau Joint Staff.

His overseas assignments placed him as the Bilateral Affairs Officer and Deputy Chief, Office of Defense Cooperation under the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) at the US Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Colonel Eisberg has nearly eight years of experience on Capitol Hill working in three different capacities- Senate Staffer with Senator James Jeffords (R-VT), a Congressional Lobbyist with the National Guard Association of the U.S. (NGAUS), and a Congressional liaison for the Chief of the National Guard Bureau (CNGB). Commissioned as an armor officer in the Vermont National Guard and subsequently transferring to the Maryland National Guard, Colonel Eisberg has served as an armor platoon leader; a division cavalry platoon leader, a squadron S4 and a RSTA Cavalry Troop Commander. Colonel Eisberg completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science at Johnson State College in Vermont and holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College. Colonel Eisberg is qualified as both an Army Strategist (FA59) and an Information Operations Officer (FA30). As an Information Operations Officer Colonel Eisberg served as a targeting officer for the 110th Information Operations Battalion, Maryland Army National Guard. His deployments include a tour as a Reconnaissance Scout Platoon Leader with SFOR-10 in Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Operation Joint Forge, and as an Information Operations Chief and targeting officer with a Joint Special Operations Command Task Force during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is a recipient of various personal and campaign awards including the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal (x2), and the Meritorious Service Medal (x5).

Colonel Eisberg currently resides with his wife Angela and their two sons Alexander Carlton (9) and Archer Conlan (7) in Arlington, VA.
