Colonel Julia S Hunt is currently the Marine Policy Advisor to the Chairman of the Reserve Forces Policy Board in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, D. C. The Reserve Forces Policy Board serves as an independent adviser to the Secretary of Defense, providing advice and recommendations to the Secretary on strategies, policies, and practices designed to improve and enhance the capabilities, efficiency and effectiveness of the seven Reserve components.
Prior to this assignment, Col Hunt was the Assistant Chief of Staff for Facilities at Marine Forces Reserve and served in that capacity from August 2016 to August 2020. Col Hunt oversaw the SRM, MILCON, and Environmental Programs, Inter Service Support Agreements, and all other installations support for 158 Marine Reserve sites located throughout CONUS, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Before that, Col Hunt served as the Branch Head for Reserve Integration at HQMC Installations & Logistics, providing Reserve advice and Reserve personnel administration to the Director of Logistics Policy in LP Division. LtCol Hunt served as the Deputy Branch Head of Reserve Affairs Personnel Policy, Plans, & Programming at HQMC Manpower & Reserve Affairs, where she deployed as the Chief of the Protective Services Detail for the Joint Visitors Bureau for US Forces-Afghanistan. Prior to that, she served as the S-4/Logistics Officer for Marine Air Group-49 Det A, providing installation and logistics support to two Marine aviation squadrons in Newburgh, NY. Maj Hunt served as the Marine Forces Reserve Deputy Budget Officer and as the Commander’s Staff Secretary at the Force Headquarters in New Orleans, displacing with the Headquarters following Hurricane Katrina and re-establishing operations upon return to the city. Captain Hunt drilled as a Reservist with 3rd Bn 25th Marines in Columbus, Ohio following a successful recruiting tour in Buffalo, NY. As a Lieutenant she served as the Motor Transport Platoon Commander with the 22nd MEU Service Support Group, completing two deployments with Landing Force 6th Fleet and several non-combatant evacuation operations in support of the State Department.
She is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command & Staff College, the Joint Forces Staff College, and the Eisenhower School, and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Ohio State University.
