Rear Admiral Kurt B. Hinrichs assumed his duties as Senior Reserve Officer, Coast Guard Atlantic Area in June 2014.  He is currently responsible for duties as the Pacific Area Senior Reserve Officer in June 2012. The area of operations for this command ranges from the Rocky Mountains to the waters off the East Coast of Africa. He is responsible for ensuring over 3,000 Pacific Area Reservists remain trained and ready to mobilize to support any of the three Coast Guard Reserve missions.

Prior to this assignment, RADM Hinrichs served as Reserve Chief of Staff Atlantic Area. Previous assignments include Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard’s Joint Forces Command Reserve Unit Suffolk, VA, Commanding Officer of Port Security Unit 305 in Ft. Eustis, VA; Executive Officer, Harbor Defense Command Unit 207, Miami, FL; Watch Captain of US Southern Command Joint Operations and Intel Center, Miami, FL; Executive Officer, Port Security Unit 307, St. Petersburg, FL; and Commanding Officer LORAN Station Kargaburun, Turkey.

Immediately following 9/11, PSU 307 was mobilized to Boston, MA, where the unit provided harbor security and force protection. While still on active duty in Boston, he transferred to the newly formed Reserve Unit Southern Command in Miami, FL. There he served on active duty for 18 months, first as Director in the Crisis Action Center and later as the Watch Captain in the Joint Operation and Intel Center. In 2010 he was recalled to active duty to assist in the development of a demobilization plan for Patrol Forces Southwest Asia.

Commissioned in 1982, RADM Hinrichs earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. In 1989 he obtained his Professional Engineering License in the State of Florida. RADM Hinrichs transitioned from active duty to reserve forces in 1987. In his civilian career, he is the Chief Operating Officer and Project Engineer for Caladesi Construction Company, a design/build commercial contractor based in Largo, Florida.

RADM Hinrichs’ personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and the Port Security Insignia. RADM Hinrichs and his wife, Amy, were married in 1989. They have three children; Martha, William and Joseph.
