Lieutenant Brown is the Senior Policy Advisor for the United States Coast Guard, Reserve Forces Policy Board, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C. The Reserve Forces Policy Board serves as an independent adviser to the Secretary of Defense, providing advice and recommendations to the Secretary on strategies, policies, and practices designed to improve and enhance the capabilities, efficiency and effectiveness of the Reserve components.
Lieutenant Brown is concurrently assigned to U. S. Coast Guard Headquarters CG-R, Assistant Commandant for Reserve, in the Policy and Strategic Communications Division. Her work involves creating component policy and strategic workforce planning to recruit, access, organize, train, administer, and support national surge capability of over 7,500 reserve members. Lieutenant Brown enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard in 2001. Her initial assignment was to the Coast Guard Cutter COHO, Panama City, FL. Her next assignment was to Group Mobile, AL, where she was advanced to Yeoman Third Class. She then transferred to U.S. Coast Guard Base Portsmouth, VA. During her second tour in Portsmouth, VA at U.S. Coast Guard Command, Control, and Communications Center, Lieutenant Brown was accepted to the Coast Guard Pre-Commissioning Program for Enlisted Personnel and attended Old Dominion University in Virginia where she received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Immediately thereafter, she attended Officer Candidate School receiving her commission as an Ensign in December 2013. Subsequently, she was assigned to Sector New York, NY as a Marine Inspector, conducting safety and security inspections on U.S. and foreign flag vessels to ensure compliance with U.S. and international regulations. In 2017, she was selected as a Reserve Program Administrator and assigned to her current unit at U. S. Coast Guard Headquarters.
Lieutenant Brown is a native of Dayton, OH. Her military awards include the Coast Guard Achievement Medal (three awards), Presidential Unit Citation, Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (two awards), Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation Ribbon (five awards), Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal (four awards), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, D.O.T. 9-11 Ribbon, and the Coast Guard Sea Service Ribbon.
